CANCER DIAGNOSIS
Diagnostic studies to be performed will depend on the suspected primary or metastatic site of the cancer. The common diagnostic studies that may be included in the process of diagnosing cancer include the following
- Cystologic examination, e.g. pap smear
- Basic X-ray studies for identifying the destructive tumours of the GI, Respiratory and renal tracts
- Complete blood count
- Protoscopic Examination
- Liver Function studies
- Radiographic Studies, e.g. mammogram (in breast cancer)
- Radioisotopic scans(for liver, brain, bone, lung cancer)
- Computed tomography(CT) scan
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)
- Antigen skin testing
- Bone marrow examination
- Lymphangiography
- Biopsy (i.e. needle biopsy, incisional biopsy, excisional biopsy)
